Kenya Methodist University Vice Chancellor Henry Kiriamiti, who was last week sent on compulsory leave, has attributed his tribulations to his refusal to sign a proposed Sh10 billion loan by the university council.

Speaking in Meru town, Prof Kiriamiti claimed the university management wanted him out for "blocking their scandalous plans to amass loot through kickbacks".

The VC said the wrangles broke out in February, when he rejected the council's proposal to borrow between Sh4 billion and Sh10 billion in efforts to restructure the current loans and debts.

The management dispute pitting the VC against the council and the chancellor is said to have been sparked by differences over how to settle Sh419 million Kenya Revenue Authority arrears.
