SCHOOL GAMES: Champs Kaya Tiwi, Kwale back for another shot at titles

Defending champions Kaya Tiwi School and Kwale Girls High School stormed into the semi-finals as Kwale County secondary Schools Term 2A games entered Day Two at Samburu Secondary School yesterday.

Kwale Girls were on fire from the first whistle, scoring 31 goals in two matches in the under-16 football spectacle to set a date with Kigwende in the semi-final.

They walloped Mnyenzeni 15-0 before drubbing Babla Diani 16-0 in the two lop-sided matches.

Cathareni Aringo scored five goals against Mnyenzeni and another six against Babla to emerge the top scorer.

Other scorers were Gladys Chekophe, Saumu Baya, Daisy Malingi and Milka Omondi.

In netball, national champions Kaya Tiwi School eased into the semi-finals after beating Mnyenzeni 63-2 and then thrashed Babla 76-4.

In Lamu County, Mpeketoni secured boys’ semi-final berths after they humbled Majembeni 26-3 before beating Hongwe 21-7 in their second match.

In other matches, Lamu Boys proved they were no push-overs as they hit Hongwe 17-2 and then humiliated Majembeni 23-8. Witu beat Hindi 20-8 and then ran over Witu Mjini 20-8 while Hindi beat Witu Mjini 25-9.

In girls’ handball, Witu Mjini sailed into semi-finals after beating Majembeni 7-0 as Lake Kenyatta edged out Hongwe 5-4 and Bahari 2-1. Mjini suffered a 5-6 loss at the hands of Witu Secondary.

In netball, Lake Kenyatta qualified for the finals after whitewashing Bakanja 47-8 while Hongwe made it to the finals after dismissing Hindi 24-11 in another semi-final.

In Taita Taveta County games held at Kenyatta Mwatate, Kajire beat Canon Kituri 1-0 to lift the girls’ under-16 football title.

Kajire beat Mwangeka 3-2 on post-match penalties after a scoreless draw in regular time while Kituri soaked Mwakitawa in a 3-1 win in another semi-final.

In boys’ under-16 football final, Moi Kasgau beat Kenyatta Mwatate 3-0 to win the title.
