Golf Foundation prepares junior team for All Africa event

Muthaiga golf course will be hosting a golf tournament on Friday to raise funds for the support of the National Junior Golf Team expected to travel to Zimbabwe to participate in the 2017 All Africa Golf Challenge.

The event being organised by the Junior Golf Foundation of Kenya (JGF) aim to raise Sh1.5 million to enable the team travel to Zimbabwe.

JGF Chairman Gitonga Kabera disclosed in a statement that the event that will be played in a Texas scramble format.

“It will be held on Friday, February 17 and entry fee per person will be Sh2,500,” said Kabera.

He said the tournament has so far received sponsorship from Davis & Shirtliff, Crown Paints, Britam, DMC foundation, Prime Bank and Crown Plaza Nairobi.

Others includes UAP-Old Mutual Group, Sankara Hotel, Ole Sereni, Air Kenya, Nomadic Tents, Shivtronics, Muthaiga Golf Club and Sigona Golf Club.

This year’s ‘All Africa Junior Golf Championship’ that will consist a boys’ team of 4 players and girls’ will have team of 3 players and will be held at the Royal Harare Golf Club in Harare Zimbabwe from 26th to the 31st of March 2017.

It will be contested over 72 holes of stoke play with 18 holes played daily over 4 days and the country with the lowest gross score over the 4 rounds (3 scores to count per team) will be the AGTC Champions.

JGF Kenya, a subsidiary of Kenya Golf Union (KGU) last month announced the National Junior Golf Team that will represent the country in the Africa Tourney.

The team selection based on the Junior Golf Foundation Order of merit includes four boys.

They are handicap 1 Agil Is Hag from Nyali, Windsor’s handicap 4 Akshay Chandaria and Muthaigas handicap 4 Mutahi Kibugu, and handicap 4 Zubair Khan.

The girls are Lady Champion handicap 4 Kellie Gachaga from Muthaiga, handicap 6 Ashley Awour of Golf Park and handicap 6 Lois Akinyi also from Golf Park.
