City matatu driver charged with drugging passengers

A matatu driver accused of being part of a cartel that drugs and steals from passengers in Nairobi has been charged in court.

Patrick Thuku was yesterday arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate Hellen Onkwani who ordered he be remanded for 10 days to allow the police to complete investigations.

According to police investigator Philip Mwangi, the driver was arrested on Sunday after a female passenger filed a complaint that she was drugged and robbed by a matatu crew at the Kenyatta National Hospital bus stage.

Mr Mwangi said the driver was likely to interfere with investigations if released on bond.

The victim said the matatu crew belonging to Dakika MO Sacco robbed her of a mobile phone, two ATM cards, her national identity card and Sh3,000 in cash.
