Police are now free to arrest a top county official linked to violence that rocked Senator Moses Wetangula's rally at Muliro Garden on April 2.

This comes after the police successfully applied and obtained an arrest warrant for Kakamega chief of staff Nabii Nabwera from a Kakamega court to investigate him for promoting war-like activities.

During the political rally which Wetang'ula launched his match to State House, teargas canisters were lobbed at the VIP podium, causing chaos.

Chief Inspector Richard Cheruiyot swore an affidavit saying that initial attempts to compel Mr Nabwera to record statements at Kakamega Police Station were unsuccessful.

He said Nabwera was a senior county official whom they had failed to reach every time they made an attempt.

WAR CHARGES

Two youths, Fredrick Andaria and Wycliffe Andere, who allegedly lobbed the canisters, are facing charges of "engaging in war-like activities".

The two pleaded not guilty to the offence in April and their case is ongoing.

Police had indicated that a rival political camp hired goons who were behind the disruption of the rally.

Several times, youths attempted to disrupt Wetan'gula's Ford Kenya rally, each time chanting slogans in support of ODM. ODM has considerable support in Kakamega County which is outside Wetang'ula political turf.

Mr Nabwera is being sought by the police over the chaos that momentarily stopped Ford Kenya event.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya distanced himself from the incident saying that he is a peace loving citizen.
