Police shoot Tononoka Secondary School student in mistaken identity case

Mombasa, Kenya: The captain of Wananyuki Football Club in Mombasa is admitted to Mewa Hospital in Mombasa, after he was shot by police in a case of mistaken identity.

Mohamed Juma Musa, 17, a student at Tononoka Secondary School, who plays as a midfielder, was shot in the left leg near Bondeni in Mombasa last Sunday.

Mombasa OCPD Geoffrey Mayek, said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“After he is discharged from hospital, he will record a statement with the police to enable us understand what happened,” Mr Mayek said yesterday.

Mohamed who was still in pain yesterday, expressed fears that the injury may jeopardise a sports scholarship he is expecting from Germany.

He insists he was shot by police officers who appeared to be looking for someone when they opened fire.
