Nairobi, Kenya - Parents and the Church have been accused of playing a significant role in the rise of homosexuality.

Bishop Edward Mwai of Jesus Winner Ministry said that the failure of parents and the Church to perform their key duty of guiding and mentoring their children and faithful is one of the reasons behind the steady rise of the vice.

He said some parents and Church leaders were no longer role models, which was in return driving children to wicked ways among them homosexuality.

Speaking during a Sunday service at his church premises in Roysambu, Bishop Mwai challenged parents and the Church to mentor the society to arrest homosexuality.

"Time is ripe for parents and the Church rise to the occasion by being role models and offer tneeded guidance in order to contain the situation before it gets out of hand," added Bishop Mwai.

Opposing a High Court ruling that gay rights activists can officially register their organisations, he said: "We  are consulting our lawyers with the view of appealing the ruling since it goes against biblical, Christian and African teachings, traditions and norms which recognise the family unit as the most respected form of human organisation," said Bishop Mwai.

He said the church would in addition organise for peaceful demonstrations countrywide to register their displeasure against the court ruling.
