D-Day for 2015 police recruitment exercise

Nairobi, Kenya: The recruitment of 10,000 police officers will take place today.

The exercise was hurriedly organised following the cancellation of a similar one last year over corruption claims.

According to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett, the exercise will be conducted in all constituencies across the country.

Unlike last year’s exercise in which the provincial administration was in charge, today’s hiring will be presided over by police commanders.

Above board

Lobbyists led by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) said they had put in place stringent measures to ensure the recruitment was above board.

The groups said they would have representatives in various recruiting centres, especially those marred by irregularities in last year’s exercise.

KNCHR Commissioner Jedidah Wakonyo said officers who participated in the previous exercise should not take part in today’s hiring process.
