US students to raise funds for Garissa University attack victims

NAIROBI: A group of students from the University of New Mexico are on a mission to raise funds through an online campaign to help the victims of the Garissa University College terror attack.

The campaign 'Hope4Garissa' will be launched on Friday at their university grounds in the US.

The campaign aims to encourage students and universities in the US and even globally to unite with them and help the Garissa victims.

The campaign, through non-profit organisations Houses with Hope and the Power of Purpose, intends to raise USD5 million.

"It is not just an appeal to the students of University of New Mexico but we are calling on everybody in the US and other parts of the world to rally behind this campaign to help the victims of the Garissa University Terror attack," said the co-ordinator of the Houses with Hope, Africa mission Jared Okelo.

"We believe this is a timely opportunity for students to help students. With your help and the help of the University of New Mexico, we believe the victims of the terrorist attack will have a much brighter future," said the organisation's President Andy Jordan.
