The Kikuyu Council of Elders should play a vital role in guiding the community and helping to revive traditions and norms.

Murang'a County Assembly Speaker Nduati Kariuki said elders should teach youths to be respectable and to shun retrogressive behaviour.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Nduati said the assembly was disturbed by the increasing moral decay among youths.

"I am urging other assemblies to seriously address matters of morality to save our youths from imitating the West," said the Speaker.

Nduati also condemned the stripping of women in public, terming it retrogressive and adding that his assembly would adjourn its normal sittings and deliberate over issues to do with immorality.
