President Uhuru Kenyatta Friday at State House Nairobi hosted his Burundian counterpart President Pierre Nkurunziza.

During the meeting which was also attended by Kenya’s First Lady Mrs.
Margaret Kenyatta and the Burundian First Lady Mrs. Denise Bucumi
Nkurunziza, the two Heads of State discussed a wide range of issues of
mutual interest to Kenya and Burundi.

President Uhuru and President Nkurunziza reaffirmed their commitment to
strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders observed that Kenya and Burundi signed a general agreement
on cooperation that established the Kenya/Burundi Joint Permanent
Commission for Cooperation (JPCC) on 14th May 2008.

President Uhuru acknowledged Burundi’s support to Kenya’s peace
initiatives in the region and welcomed Burundi’s contribution of troops to
the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

On his part, President Nkurunziza, once again, congratulated President
Kenyatta on his swearing-in as the fourth President of Kenya and expressed
his Government’s commitment to working with Kenya for the benefit of the
people of the two countries.

President Nkurunziza was also accompanied by Burundian Ambassador to Kenya
Mr. Ezekiel Nibigira and First Councillor Mr. Fulgence Ndaishiniye.
