More open days for the Judiciary

Following recent remarks by Chief Justice Evan Gicheru over appointment of judges, the system needs to be reviewed.

This will prevent embarrassing situations where appointments are cancelled at the last minute or postponed indefinitely.

The Law Society of Kenya and the Justice Minister have to be consulted, and Parliament needs to approve appointments of Appeal Court judges.

For the Judiciary, an open day, week or even month is not enough to restore public confidence in it. Urgent reforms like opening up the Judiciary’s spokesperson office to the public need to be put in place.

Holding of open days once a year will not satisfy the public’s quest or thirst for justice that is timely, efficient and cost effective.
