Nairobi, Kenya: Football Kenya Federation have made good on their threat by fining Gor Mahia and Sofapaka for participating in Wednesday’s DSTV Super Cup.
For ignoring the federation’s directive not to feature in the traditional curtain-raiser to the season, both the 14 time Kenyan Premier League champions and the 2014 Gotv winners have been handed a Sh 200,000 fine each, while the match officials who handled the clash will serve a three-months suspension each.
“Following today’s executive meeting, we’ve fined Gor Mahia and Sofapaka after they went against our order and took part in the unsanctioned match. The two clubs must now pay a fine of Sh 200,000. All those match officials who were involved have been suspended with immediate effect for three months,” said FKF Vice Chairman Robert Asembo.
The suspended referees are Moses Osano, Dorcas Wanza, Stephen Oduor, Amos Wanjala (Fourth official) and match Commissar Paul Kaunda.
Apart from the trophy, Gor walked away with Sh 750,000 after beating Batoto Ba Mungu 2-1, while Sofapaka pocketed Sh 500,000.
