Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale: Denies claims of receiving money to keep silent on miller’s financial woes

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has vowed to resign if found guilty of receiving Sh12.5 million bribe from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

Dr Khalwale asked relevant authorities to probe the matter to establish the truth, saying he was ready to quit as Senator in line with Chapter Six on integrity.

He dismissed allegations that he was bribed by the governor to keep silent on the financial woes facing Mumias Sugar Company (MSC).

“I want to inform Kenyans that I am ready to resign as Kakamega Senator if investigations prove that I received Sh12.5 million bribe over MSC financial crisis,” said Khalwale.

He claimed some individuals took advantage of his absence when he was away in Arusha, Tanzania on official duty, to tarnish his name by saying he received a bribe through direct deposit to his bank account.

Speaking to the Press in Kakamega, the Senator said he will surrender to the police and face jail term if he will be found guilty of corruption.

“Once found culpable of corruption or bribery then I will say goodbye to my family, friends and all Kenyans then I will handover myself to police to be arrested and convicted. I will also never seek any elective seat if I will be responsible for corruption,” he said.

Khalwale said he has directed Co-operative Bank managing director to reveal to the public if Sh12.5 million was deposited in his account.

The Senator distanced himself from the bank slip that circulated on social media bearing his bank account details saying it was fake.
