126 junior DCI personnel moved in changes

More than 100 junior police officers at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been transferred from their stations across the country.

DCI George Kinoti told the 126 officers to report to the new stations by July 1.

Those affected include those in the ranks of chief inspector (three), inspector (six), senior sergeant, sergeant, (17), corporal (35) and constable (65).

The changes were declared normal aimed at boosting operations in the country. Some of the personnel had overstayed in their camps. They come in the wake of efforts by Kinoti to revamp the unit and devolve it further to various levels.

Kinoti plans to empower the DCI in Sub County regions and let stations deal with other crimes.

“Just like the FBI model, the DCI plans to have the personnel in sub counties and will be intervening in serious cases only,” said an insider aware of the plans.

A team of 500 personnel is currently undergoing tough training ahead of their deployment.
