Kenya Railways has received more freight engines and wagons for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) cargo service operations.
Some 18 freight locomotives and 60 wagons designed for double-stacking of containers were offloaded at the Port of Mombasa yesterday.
KR Managing Director AK Maina witnessed the offloading on Saturday. "We have a team working round the clock to ensure all aspects of freight operations are in place. The inland container depot at Embakasi, which is a key installation for Kenya's railway operations, is on course for completion by September of this year," Maina said.
The SGR line between Mombasa and Nairobi has been in use for slightly over a month.
