Defending champions Kapkolei Girls made a comeback after defeating Matuga Girls from Mombasa Region 2-0 in a tough girls’ hockey match to revive their hopes of reaching a respectable position in the ongoing Pepsi National Secondary Schools Championships at Nakuru Boys High School.

Basiwa Cheruiyot sounded the board twice in the 14th and 18th minutes to earn her team maximum points in the Pool B match played yesterday.

East Africa defending cahmpions Kerugoya Girls also regained their winning formula beating stubborn Sinyolo of Lake Region by a solitary goal scored by Eva Mbugua from a prolonged corner in another Pool B match.

In the Pool A girls’ preliminary matches, Afraha High School from Nakuru sliced St Joseph’s Kibwezi of Metropolitan 2-0 in the first match while St Cecilia Misikhu of Nzoia also defeated Gategi Girls of Northern 3-0 in a one sided match.

In the Pool A boy’s hockey matches, Nairobi School settled for a one all draw against resurgent St Patrick’s Iten while St Charles Lwanga of Mombasa hit Mangu of Abardares by a solitary goal.

The Pool B matches between Friends School Kamusinga and Kangaru Boys and that between Narok Boys and Maseno School were going on by our press time.

Garissa Great Loss

In the girls’ handball matches, Friends School Kamusinga hammered Garissa of North Eastern 64-0 in the first Pool A match while in the second tie Shimba Hills of Mombasa Region defeated Kirigara of Northern 25-22.

In the Pool B, Sega of Lake Region dismissed Gatarakwa of Aberdares 29-12.

The match between Matuu Memorial of Metropolitan and Chepterit of Nakuru was going on by our press time.

Northern’s Kathungi lost 32-25 to Kimilili of Nzoia in the Pool A while Nakuru’s Laboret defeated Garissa High 38-11 in the boys’ Pool A match.

On Tuesday, Mangu High hit St Patrick’s Iten 2-1 in boys’ hockey while Nairobi School defeated St Charles Lwanga by the same margin.

Decathlon and heptathlon will take place at Afraha Stadium with the cross country expected to start later in the week. Rugby sevens is expected to start today after conclusion of preliminary matches.
