Kenya Police remained on course of winning the second leg of the national boxing league after they entered six boxers in the final on Friday night.
The three-day boxing action at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Makande was due to conclude last evening. The much-improved Coast combined side coached by Davis Mike had five boxers punching their way to the final.
Kenya Defence Force (KDF) who are making their comeback into the league had three while Prisons had two boxers sail to the final. In middleweight, David Njuguna of Police had less time in knocking out Christopher Odera of Coast in the third round.
KDF’s Nick Abaka had points advantage over Anthony Otieno of Kisumu in another middle weight bout. Peter Mungai of Police won on points over Prison’s Erick Ndungu in light fly. In light welter, Victor Odhiambo of KDF stopped Ben Omondi of Coast on points while Prisons’ Joseph Njogu won on points against Musa Gitonga of KDF in bantam.
In flyweight, Harrison Mathuku of Prisons beat Jackton Okwiri of Coast on points. In light flyweight, Abednego Kyalo of Nairobi’s Metropolitan knocked out Abdalla Athman of Coast while Police’s Victor Onyango defeated Michael Ochieng of Kisumu in light flywelter.
Fredrick Ochieng of Coast beat Kisumu’s David Omolo in light while Simon Kinuthia of Coast stopped Chris Kamau of Central in bantam. Isaac Meja of Nairobi knocked down Kisumu’s Kevin Akoko in the first round in flyweight.
In super heavy weight, Collins Ojal of Coast knocked down Peter Mwaniki of Prisons in the first round to book a final date with Peter Opudi of Police who defeated Michael Okwisia in another super heavy bout. In heavy weight, Charles Okoth of Police knocked out Kisumu’s Anthony Oduor in the first round while KDF’s Fred Ramogi lost on points to Aziz Ali of Prisons in another heavy weight bout. In light heavy, Elly Ajowi of Police beat Fredrick Onyango of KDF on points.
In special contests (light weight), Elijah Munyasia of Coast silenced Hussein Hassan of Kaloleni on points. In light fly, Brian Agina of Coast floored Stephen Ndungu of Central.
