NAIROBI, KENYA: Motorists got a reprieve on Friday after fuel prices came down. The price of Kerosene, used by rural households and urban poor for lighting and cooking, however went up.

In its monthly price capping guide, the Energy Regulatory Commission reduced price of super petrol by Sh5 a litre and that of diesel by Sh1 while price of kerosene went up by Sh2.

Super petrol will now retail at a maximum of Sh108.18 per litre in Nairobi down from Sh113.24 last month. Diesel will cost Sh99.16 per litre in the capital from Sh101.06 while kerosene will retail at Sh81.52 per litre from Sh79.46.

The energy industry regulator attributed the reduction in petrol and diesel to slight decrease in the price of both crude oil and refined petroleum products in the international markets as well as a stable shilling against major global currencies during the month of May.
