Isiolo, Kenya: Vetting of nominees to Isiolo County Executive and Public Service Board commenced as members of two communities went to court saying they have been left out of the line-up.

Members of the Turkana and Meru communities through their representatives were Tuesday granted leave by the High Court in Meru Town where four respondents among them Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo and County Assembly Speaker Mohammed Tubi were directed to appear at the same court along with six petitioners for an ex-parte hearing on the matter.

The notice was received at the County headquarters Tuesday afternoon as members of the Committee on Appointment concluded the first session of the vetting involving seven nominees to the County Executive Committee.

“Let all parties concerned attend the Honourable Judge in chambers on the June 5, 2013 (today) at 9 o’clock in the fore-noon or so soon thereafter for hearing of this application for orders,’’ stated summon from the court obtained through Carlpeters Mbaabu and Company Advocates, for the petitioners.

The petitioners are Joseph Kalapata, Silas Eudan and Amos Lechwa for the Turkana and Luke Mithika, Monica Gikunda and Amos Maingi for the Meru.

In their petition, they stated that despite being the second and third most populous communities in the county, they had not been nominated to positions in the two categories by the County government.

Wabera Ward representative Selasio Kiambi said Isiolo is identified through five major communities which ought to be represented at all levels of appointments in County government.

Kiambi said appointments made so far had all been taken by members from the Borana, Somali and Samburu leaving out the equally populous Meru and Turkana.

At the Assembly chambers, seven nominees to the County Executive had easy time as they faced questions from five-member panelists where only one is from the Opposition side.

Bulapesa Ward representative Moses Kithinji questioned the nominees experience and relevance of their academic qualifications to the positions they were nominated to.
