Arsene Wenger eyes up Wayne Rooney and claims ex-Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is unsettled
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has taken the unusual step of talking about two potential Arsenal signings this summer in Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas.
Rooney wants to leave Manchester United after reportedly handing in a transfer request, while Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a shock return to the Premier League.
England goalscorer Rooney is being looked at by PSG, Chelsea and Arsenal, and although the Gunners have a first-option deal with Barcelona for Fabregas, Manchester United and City are keen to sign the Spaniard.
And Wenger has not ruled out swooping for either of the unsettled stars this summer, as he ponders how to spent Arsenal's expected £70 million summer transfer budget.
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?" Wenger told Qatar broadcaster Al Jazeera.
"David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality....we will see.
"It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."
The Frenchman went on to speak about his former charge Fabregas, who is thought to be considering leaving the Nou Camp this summer after failing to earn a regular first team spot at Barcelona.
"I think at the moment he's lacking the confidence of being a regular player," Wenger added. "Recently he has not been that.
"Cesc is such a passionate player, a player of such quality, that it must hurt him not to play in every single game. That's what he misses. When you come in and out you never play with full confidence."
