Nairobi,Kenya:Tusker sail past Muhoroni Youth as Bandari frustrate Sofapaka in KPL ties
Western Stima upset Gor Mahia 2-1 in this Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played at Mumias Sports Complex yesterday.
It was the second defeat by Gor Mahia and it will certainly put coach Zradvko Logarusic under pressure as it tumbles his chances of winning the league.
David Owino put Gor ahead first in the 14th minute after rising up to head home a Moses Odhiambo free kick. Stima scored through Wesley Kemboi and Hedmound Maunda in the 16th and 18th minutes respectively.
At Mbaraki grounds, hosts Bandari pulled an important 2-1 win over visiting Sofapaka in a result that pushed the winners to third place on the standings but the former KPL champions are still second on the log.
IMPORTANT WIN
Dennis Okoth scored both goals for the winners. His first was in the 20th minute and 23rd minute both times catching the Sofapaka defense napping.
Eugine Asike pulled one back for Sofapaka in the 45th minute but it was too late as the homeside hang onto the lead to maintain an-unbeaten run at home.
Bandari looked dangerous from the word go and had their first chance early in the match with Abdulatif Omar testing Duncun Ochieng in goal.
On the other hand of the pitch, Danson Kago made a decent attempt beating two defenders with an incredible turn but his powerful shot went just wide.
In Awendo, a ninth minute penalty scored by Sylvester Wanyama decided this match in favour of Sony Sugar who stopped Karuturi Sports 1-0 and moved two places up from the relegation zone.
OMOLLO RELIEF
It was the second straight win for Sony, who last weekend stopped visiting Western Stima 2-1 and has certainly eased pressure on coach Sammy Omollo.
In Chemelil, Stephen Waruru scored in the third minute to help Ulinzi Stars pick all three points after his side won 1-0 against Chemelil Sugar.
It is a result that halted Chemelil’s good run in the league coming just one week after they stopped champions Tusker 2-1 in Nairobi.
In Muhoroni, Jesse Were was a constant threat to the host Muhoroni propelling defending Champions Tusker FC to reap maximum points with his stunning hat-trick.
He headed a cross from Khalid Ouso beating a hapless Joel Odongo in the 20th minute of the game.
With just 15 seconds to the breather Were was at it again romping home a second goal after getting a cross from Fredrick Onyango.
Charged Were added the third goal in the 64th minute of the encounter giving the visiting team a deserved 3-0 win over the hosts to the disappointment of the hopeful home fans.
