The growing cases of pornography trade that were revealed in last week’s story, Perverts on the Loose, is a symptom of a larger social problem.
Truth be told, most women have many hang-ups and needs to ‘let their hair down’. It is this uptight behaviour which has encouraged the consumption of pornographic material and visits to brothels.
If men were in happy relationships where their needs are met, porn and sex workers will be non-existent. A satisfied man has no need for mpango wa kando.
Until this larger issue is addressed we should expect more of such stories especially in a society that worships money.
A good example is the case of our MPs who have made threats if their salaries are not increased yet they have not fully assumed office.
The story published a few weeks ago of a con artist selling ‘fake seeds’ is another revelation of how greedy the society has become. Why did the victim empty her account which had Sh5 million to buy seeds worth Sh34,000 per kilo? She could have first tested the market with just that one kilo but she was greedy.
In a country where money is valued over humanity it will definitely be a first stop for a sociopath willing to pay for bestiality.
Historically, Mombasa was considered calm and slower than Nairobi but lately it has become a whoredom. There is desperation and willingness to do anything for money.
Accountability is what it is all about, something that is never taught in schools. Folks often quip, “you can’t live on love”. It is such cynicism that has turned our society into the modern day Gomora.
The Nyali dog story sounds like an anecdote for a comedy show, but it is a very serious societal problem.
Religious programmes cannot cure this problem. There is need to address this issue before it wipes out our young generations.
