Kenya: The TJRC report that was presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday wants past reports of commissions of inquiry to be released.
These include report on the probe on 1992 raid on Bishop Gitari’s house in Kirinyaga, probe into the conduct of the Artur Brothers and their associates (Kiruki Report) and the findings by a committee on harassment and/or discrimination of the Muslim community in the application of the law (Sharawe Report).
It also wants the resettlement of Kenyan refugees in Uganda and fast-tracking of the operationalisation of the Prevention, Protection and Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons and Affected Communities Act of 2012.
It further recommends the registration of all IDPs who did not benefit from Operation Rudi Nyumbani, with particular focus on integrated IDPs, as well as ratification of the African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons.
The report says there is lack of political will towards national unity, healing and reconciliation.
“Promoting national unity and reconciliation requires strong political support. Such strong political support and leadership has not been available in Kenya even in the aftermath of the 2007/2008 PEV,” says the report.
