The nine-hole Eldoret Golf Club hosts the second leg of the Pan Africa Life Challenge this weekend.

A strong field of more than 100 golfers drawn from the hosting club and Kitale Club will be in action during this second qualification round of the challenge.

According to Eldoret Club Captain John Barorot, the heavy rains have stopped hence they will play the full course.

“The course is in excellent condition and the greens are well kept, golfers should expect to have an exciting time.”

“It is hard to put your money on one golfer when they have all been showing a lot of shifts lately. I think we are in for a lot of surprises,” added Barorot who named Moses Tanui, Kamau Watunu and Jeremy Kanyago, Annan Nakhali and George Njoroge as top golfers for the event.

Morning action begins at 8.00am with the afternoon tee off scheduled for 11.00am to end between slightly after 6pm.

According to the Pan Africa Life Chief Executive Officer, Tom Gitogo, the event forms part of their strategy to reach out to their clients.

“Our firm has branches in various parts of Kenya and we are using golf as a vehicle to interact with our clients and partners,” he said.

“The events also give our financial advisors a platform to meet their clients in the various localities”.

Talented individuals

He said the Pan Africa Life is committed to motivating the golfers and popularising the sport.

“The insurance company seeks to recognise talented individuals and help them grow with the gamE. We believe by supporting local players, we will give them the opportunity to focus on their game as opposed to the costs of participation,” said Gitogo.  From Eldoret, the challenge will move to Nakuru Golf Club on June 8 before going to Nyali Golf and Country Club on July 13.

Nyanza Club in Kisumu is expected to host the tournament on August 31 before paving way for the grand finale at the Muthaiga Golf Club a month later. The overall winner of the Pan Africa Life Golf Challenge will win an all expenses paid trip to participate in the 2013 Sanlam Cancer Challenge that will be held at the Sun City Golf Resort, South Africa, between October 21 and 22.
