Kengewa coach Charles Ngovi has conceded their fate is out of their hands after they drew 18-18 with Ndovu at the RFUEA grounds on Saturday evening.
Speaking to Feverpitch after the match, Ngovi admitted his side still has a mountain to climb if they are to make it to the semi-finals of the Bamburi Rugby Super Series.
The draw against Ndovu leaves Kangewa without victory and hence are third in the log with just two points from a similar number of games.
With only one game remaining, Kengewa can only amass a maximum of seven points while the other two contenders Ndovu and Rwenzori have a chance of surpassing that mark.
“It is now out of our hands, even if we win convincingly next weekend against Mamba,” he said. “We have to hope that Ndovu lose their last match and do not get a point in order for us to stand a chance.”
Meanwhile Rwenzori registered a massive victory in Mombasa where they hammered Mamba 53-3 to top the pool with a whopping nine points. The Ugandan side is now assured qualification into the semi finals and the last game will only be used to determine the group winners.
Ndovu now head to Kampala with seven points hoping they beat Rwenzori at home in order for them to top the pool and comfortably make it to the semifinals.
Elsewhere, Papa coach Paul Odera lauded his side for a hard fought 30-20 victory over Victoria at RFUEA grounds.
“It was hard but it definitely felt good,” he explained. “We have now qualified for the semi-finals with two victories to our name.”
Papa are now bracing for a bruising battle against Nyumbu in the last group game to determine who tops the pool.
“We played a bit of a different team today and maybe that is why we struggled a bit,” said Odera.
