A teacher in Vihiga County could lose his job after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) indicted him for allegedly sexually molesting a minor.
The Busali Union Secondary School teacher was found guilty by the TSC of an illicit affair with schoolgirl, 17, on November 23 last year. The victim is a pupil at Chamakanga Primary School.
The teacher met the girl at the school’s gate in the evening and he took her to his house where he committed the act.
Area director of TSC, Mr Paul Kokello sent a stern warning to all teachers involved in acts of child molestation to desist before the law catches up with them.
“All teachers should take responsibility and respect their profession by mentoring these children. Teachers should inculcate values that promote morality in our children and not perpetrating such evil deeds,” said Mr Kokello.
He noted whether the minor consents or not, teachers should know children are protected by several State organs and violating their rights would attract dire consequences.
“Nearly all organs in the Government are protecting children especially those still in schools and teachers should not abuse any of them,” he said.
Many cases
The TSC director noted the teacher’s body is burdened with many cases of child abuse all over the country and it was high time to put it to an end and teachers upheld their professional integrity.
“I will not allow my teachers in the region to have carnal relations with their pupils or students during my watch. I reiterate that the punishment for such unprofessionalism will not be withheld, including loss of one’s job,” he said.
Cases of sexual assault on minors have recently been on the rise.
