Makueni, Kenya: Preparation for the burial of the late Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo are nearly complete as detectives continued piecing together information to unravel his death puzzle.
Sources said even as toxicology report on the samples collected was being awaited, the detectives had zeroed in on the possibility Mutula could have been poisoned.
“It is how it happened and who did it is what we are tracing even as we await the toxicology report from the pathologists,” a top police officer who preferred anonymity told The Standard.
The sources further said “whoever carried out the mission must have been a professional because it was done in a sophisticated manner and it might not have necessarily been on the fateful day but the toxicology report will reveal all that.”
The remains of the late Mutula who passed on at his Maanzoni ranch in Machakos last week will be laid to rest Thursday at his Woyani rural home in Utangwa Location, Mbooni constituency.
Among those expected at the burial include President Uhuru Kenyatta, former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi.
Tuesday, top security officials led by Eastern Provincial Commissioner Clare Omollo visited the home to ensure adequate security measures.
“Everything is going as planned and we are set for the burial on Thursday,” said the PC.
Burial service will be held at Kikima Secondary School grounds.
