Lodwar, Kenya: Police in Lodwar have nabbed  24 Ethiopia aliens enroute to Kitale after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident along Lodwar- Kitale road in Turkana County.

Drama unfolded shortly after a speeding vehicle which was carrying the alien rolled several times about 5 km from Lodwar town prompting police to pounce on the alien.

Police also engaged the Ethiopian aliens in a running battle after some who had slight injuries attempted to escape from the accident scene.

Seven of the Ethiopian aliens sustained critical injuries while one died in Lodwar district hospital while receiving treatment.

Loima district OCPD Michael Muchiri said 16 of the suspects have been arraigned in Lodwar Court while seven others are still receiving treatment at Lodwar district hospital.

He added that they managed to pounce on the suspects after a tip off.The OCPD said the suspects have been charged with being in the country illegally.

The OCPD said the suspects had crossed from Omorate in South Omo in Ethiopia while enroute to South Africa.

He said the body of the deceased alien has been moved to Lodwar district hospital mortuary.

“We managed to arrest the suspects and arraigned them in Lodwar court.

We are also investigating a human trafficking incidence in the area”, Muchiri added.

The suspects took plea in Lodwar court hearing is set for Monday when an interpreter would be present because the suspects only speak Amharic dialect.

Police have also arraigned in court the suspect believed to be behind the human trafficking syndicate in the region.
