Busia County leaders have petitioned Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to overhaul the entire local security system to end escalating cases of insecurity.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, his Deputy Kizito Wangalwa, and other local leaders accused security officers of laxity in handling insecurity.
Mr Ojaamong also said the Government should consider transferring the security portfolio to county governments for effective service delivery.
He said development is determined by the level of security, adding that insecure regions cannot attract investors. “We want urgent measures to stop these heinous acts that have brought a lot sorrow and pain to our people,” said Ojaamong.
He wondered how a group of 30 people could move from one village to another tormenting residents without the knowledge of police and the intelligence.
He added: “The officers who have overstayed in their respective stations should be moved to pave way for fresh ideas which can help address the problem.”
