Muslim leaders from Western region have backed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet saying nationwide representation was well achieved.
The leaders exuded confidence that the nominees for Cabinet Secretary positions had impressive academic backgrounds and would steer development and move the country forward to realise the national agenda.
Led by Mr Mohammed Khayundi, Chairperson Western Muslim Leaders forum, the leaders said they would support the nominated persons, adding that they were optimistic that the nominees will serve and deliver to all Kenyans.
“As Muslim leaders from this region, we scrutinised the candidates and concluded they were the best and met all the requirements in the constitution. We are satisfied that they would deliver and move the country to greater heights,’’ said Khayundi.
Speaking in Mumias yesterday during a devolution workshop, the leaders asked parliament to approve the list of 16 Cabinet Secretaries in order for the country to forge ahead and for the Jubilee government to deliver their promises to Kenyans.
Mr Shaban Oteng’o, co-ordinator of the forum further affirmed that Muslim community was well represented with four nominees out of the 16 proposed names.
The four Muslims nominated are Amb Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs), Dr Hassan Wario (Sports, Culture and Arts), Najib Balala (Mining) and Adan Mohammed (Industrialisation and Enterprise Development).
“As the Muslim community we are happy that four are our brothers and sister who have been nominated in the Cabinet.
This have never happened before and we believe they won’t disappoint in their service delivery to Kenyans,’’ averred Oteng’o.
Khayundi additionally challenged the Luhya community to choose national unity and show commitment to working with the Government instead of distancing themselves from others so that they can be included in key slots in the Government.
