Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Board has left the fate of elected committee members in the hands of the constituents.

The board director, Rose Mbula Kioko, said the new CDF Act has taken the responsibility of appointing the CDF committees from the elected members of the National Assembly. The members of the committee are to be elected by the people.

Speaking at a CDF Board Public Awareness Campaign in Kisumu, Ms Kioko said it was up to the people to choose able leaders who will work diligently to develop the constituencies. She said the board had done its part by advertising the positions to be contested and how the election is to be conducted.

Kioko said from four wards in the various constituencies, five people would be nominated, bringing the number to 20.

From this number, eight people would be elected while three would be nominated to the committee. The election, which is on-going in various constituencies, is being presided over by opinion leaders.

“How free and fair the elections will be lies in the hands of the people as they are involved in the process,” she said, adding that they will work with those who will have been voted in.

The constituencies are to elect the committee members 45 days from the time the legislators were sworn in.

“Vote for people with integrity in the committees to spearhead development in your constituencies,” said Kioko.

The director urged the residents of all constituencies to take part in all the projects in their locality. Kioko said according to the CDF Act, projects shall be community based to ensure prospective benefits are available to locals.

The amendment in the new CDF Act is in line with devolved government to ensure equitable distribution of resources in the counties.
