Kisumu, Kenya: The late Mutula Kilonzo’s last visit to Nyanza in January brought memories of what he said would be fulfilled.
Being a campaign period, Mutula drummed up support for the then Medical Services Minister Anyang’ Nyong’o for position of Kisumu County Senator.
He said the Senate needed experienced leaders. He went ahead and proposed names of politicians who could do well in the Senate, naming particularly those with a background in law.
He mentioned lawyers who incidentally made it to the House as Senators such as Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), James Orengo (Siaya), Amos Wako (Busia), Otieno Kajwang’ (Homa Bay) and Moses Wetangula (Bungoma).
“Pigieni hao watu kura, tukiwa na mawakili wengi kwa Senate tutapitisha miswada mingi (Vote for these people; when we have lawyers in the Senate, crucial county Bills will be passed),” said Mutula.
Mutula, whose body was found on his bed by his worker on Saturday at Maanzoni home in Machakos County after the failed to show up for breakfast, visualised a Senate with bright minds.
These are leaders that would push for reforms and one of a kind with intellectuals who mastered law. His dream seemed to have been fulfilled as the senate boasts of a strong blend of lawyers.
The whole nation seemed to have heeded to his call to vote in able leaders who will spearhead reforms in the country.
