The 2008 National Rally Champion Baldev Singh Chager will be the driver to watch when the third round of the Kenya National Autocross Championship heads to Athi River on Sunday.

Also entering the weekend event is 2011 KNRC Division Two Champion Onkar Singh Rai, who will be sharing a car with Chager.

Asked what his strategy for the weekend would be, Chager said he hopes to push his fast chopped up Subaru N10 to the limit.

Chager’s ex-Carl Tundo car has been the fastest machine in the autocross.

Chager’s machine, and a host of new and established buggy and quad competitors as well as rally machines, have confirmed entry.

Ben Muchemi ‘Baba Ciru’ is entering for cars under the KRT/Safaricom Rally Team.

The team has Muchemi in his new Dakar Rally buggy, George Njoroge, Nzioka Waita and Philys Wambui, all who are entering in a Subaru. Quite a number of buggies have signed up for the event including Amit Pandya, Bobby Patel of PAC Tuned, and Sammy Nyorri with the 2WD Toyota Vitz car.

Chager, who also leads the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) 2013 series with victory in Kajiado and second place in Nyeri, was upbeat  as preparations continued in earnest at his garage near Valley Arcade in Nairobi.

“The car has been impressive so far and I hope to keep my foot down in Athi River,” said Chager.

Unlike in the past when this event produced one overall winner, this year winners are determined from categories with which they are entered. Over 30 drivers are expected to grace the Sikh Union organised round event.

According to Clerk of the Course Pipi Renu and Event Director Dali Kalsi, a circuit of approximately 2.5km will be run in the event sponsored by Valvoline, Unifilters and Fleetguard and Blue Triangle, Securex and  Bantaram & Co Ltd.
