The Government has been urged to beef up security in northern Kenya to guarantee Kenyans of their safety.

Leaders from Murang’a County called on the Government to move with speed and apprehend suspected terrorists in areas such as Garissa to restore public confidence and lamented that the rate of insecurity in the region was raising concerns.

The calls come barely days after  the Government interdicted at least ten police officers and chiefs in the North Eastern region for being involved in illegal activities linked to the recent killings in Garissa town.

Led by Hiram Mwaniki, the leaders mourned the deaths of Antony Gitau Mwangi, 32,  and Joseph Kinuthia, 19, of Githima village in Kigumo district.

The two were among the victims of criminals who went on a killing spree at Gwa Chege Hotel in Garrissa town.

The leaders called on the Government to ensure that those behind the incident were brought to book in an effort to restore public confidence in matters pertaining to security in the volatile region.

Al Shabaab network

Mwangi who will be buried today was attending to patrons at the Gwa Chege Hotel in Garissa town when the criminals struck,  killing him and nine other people.

In the past one year, many Kenyans have been killed and others injured by terrorists linked to the Al Shabaab network.

“Security forces in the region must work extra hard to weed out the criminal elements with the public expected to co-operate by disclosing their whereabouts,” said Mwaniki.

Meanwhile, a mother of three is nursing serious knife wounds after her husband stabbed her severally in Mukuyu.
