Nairobi, Kenya: Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Sotik Member of Parliament Dr Joyce Laboso has lost her mother.

Mrs Rebecca Laboso, a prominent farmer and former councillor died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi broke the sad news to Members of Parliament when they convened for a session Thursday afternoon.

“The late mama Laboso passed away at 1pm on Wednesday at Nairobi hospital where she was rushed after developing complications from a disease she has been suffering from since November 2012,” Muturi said.

Muturi said, “On behalf of parliament, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the Laboso family and wish them God’s comfort at this trying moments.”

The late Rebecca was the mother to the former Home Affairs assistant Minister Ms Lornah Chepkemoi Laboso who perished in a plane crash on June 10, 2008 in Narok County alongside former Roads Minister and Bomet MP Kipkalya Kones.

Dr Laboso had told The Standard on telephone earlier that the she had been informed of the demise of her beloved mother after chairing the morning session in parliament on Wednesday.

“It is very devastating news to us as a family… Her condition worsened and she was rushed to hospital where she later died,” Dr Laboso said.
