Nairobi, Kenya: The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) wants a court to suspend orders blocking it from accessing Sh297 million in a bank to recover tax arrears from a businessman.

The authority is claiming Sh156 million unpaid taxes from a contractor, Mr Jacob Juma, who seized the property of the National Cereals and Produce Board last year over a debt.

KRA said an order issued by the court in favour of Erad Suppliers, co-owned by Mr Juma has stopped it from accessing the money deposited at the Kenya Commercial Bank.

The taxman is demanding the money from Erad Suppliers Ltd, whose director is Juma. He is also a director of Juma Construction Company Ltd.

The application by KRA for suspension of the orders could not be heard yesterday as the Trial Judge George Odunga was engaged in other official duties.

Mr Odunga directed that the case be heard before another judge on May 16.
