Kenya: The list of nominees to county assemblies continues to elicit protests countrywide.
County representatives in Nyamira have opposed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission list of nominees for the ward.
The leaders questioned the criteria used in nominating the candidates, arguing that there was little regard for regional balance.
In a joint press briefing they said one ward (Ekerenyo) in North Mugirango Constituency had four nominees, pushing the number of ward representatives from that particular ward to five.
Meanwhile, County Assembly members affiliated to URP in Elgeyo/Marakwet have accused top politicians of allegedly doctoring the list of party nominees presented to IEBC for nomination.
The members mainly drawn from Keiyo North and Marakwet West constituencies said politicians want to use nominations to reward their cronies and relatives.
Members of the Kipsigis community in Narok County have protested against the recently published list of nominees to the county assembly saying it does not reflect the true face of the county.
Several leaders and activists from the community hit out at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission accusing it of being insensitive to a number of factors while coming up with the list.
Led by Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ngeno and several elected members of county assembly from the community, the leaders petitioned the IEBC to nullify the list and prepare an all-inclusive one.
Scores of people living with disabilities in Taita-Taveta County Wednesday held a demonstration against their alleged exclusion in the list of nominees to the County Assembly special seats.
Carrying twigs, they stormed the County Governor’s offices in Wundanyi town demanding to know how the nomination process was done.
“None of our members have been nominated to the County Assembly. It is as if we do not exist as political parties have completely discriminated us,” said Chrispine Mwamburi.
