Deputy President William Ruto has re-assured Kenyans of their security saying the Government would ruthlessly crack down on criminal elements bent on creating insecurity in parts of the country.

Mr Ruto said the Government would mobilise both material and human resources at its disposal to ensure that security is restored in the affected areas.

The Deputy President was speaking at the Africa Inland Church, Kasarani where he attended a church service and a fundraiser for the church’s national prayer conference centre, which was presided over by his wife Rachel.

Ruto said: “We are committed, as Government to ensure this senseless loss of lives and destruction of people’s property by criminals is stopped and those involved apprehended.”

He singled out Garissa town as one of the most affected by the killings, saying it was unacceptable that criminal elements had even attacked and killed worshippers in churches and other public places and emphasised that the Government was on top of the security situation in the country and would ensure such an incident never happens again.

Discourage investors

“We cannot compromise on security in our country, we want all citizens and visitors alike to go about their business unmolested,” he added.

The Deputy President noted that continued insecurity would discourage investors. He made it clear that the Government would not sit idle and let anything jeopardise the country’s economy that he said must grow at double digits.

Ruto at the same time reiterated his call to Kenyans to unite and work together in taking this country to the next level irrespective of their ethnic, gender and political persuasions.

He added: “We are calling on everyone including the clergy to come and work with us in developing our country because we believe all Kenyans have a responsibility towards this country.”

Rachel hailed the AIC women members for spearheading construction of the church’s national prayer conference centre, saying women should take their rightful role in providing solutions to the difficulties facing the society.

Ruto gave Sh1 million, his wife Sh50,000, Presiding Bishop of the AIC Kenya Silas Yego Sh50,000 while the fundraiser’s women organising committee gave Sh470,300.
