Defending champions Tusker failed to go past troubled AFC Leopards after the game ended 1-1 as Sofapaka went on rampage thrashing Nairobi City Stars 3-1 in this Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at City Stadium on sartuday.

The win enabled Sofapaka to go top of the standings after KCB lost 1-0 to Bandari.

City Stars were the first to score when Ugandan import Jimmy Bagaye netted the opener through a 58th minute penalty. The penalty was awarded after Anthony Kimani was judged to have hacked down Arthur Museve as he was making a run inside the Sofapaka defence.

The City Stars goal was almost expected, coming at a time the Kawangware based side was making all sorts of attempts in search of an opener and it was just a question of when, not if they would score.

However, Sofapaka were undeterred by the goal and initiated a strong comeback, getting the equaliser just seven minutes later when Felly Mulumba rose to head home a well executed Obadiah Tarumbwa free kick.

City Stars will have themselves to blame for allowing the Congolese man free access inside their half and he made no mistake, beating Ronnie Kagunzi with a brilliant header.

It was not over for the winners as second half substitute Enock Agwanda rattled City Stars with an 80th minute goal. The former Sony Sugar striker proved his worth when he picked up a loose ball near the 25 yard, made just one step and released a sucker punch, which beat Kagunzi all the way as City Stars defenders watched.

Then veteran striker John Barasa made it 3-1 for Sofapaka with another brilliant effort, finishing off a Kevin Kimani cross that had beat Kagunzi in goal.

In the other match, Tusker were the first to score when Ismail Dunga netted in the 38th minute but Antony Kimani leveled matters in the 80th minute with a powerful header from a Paul Were corner kick.
