NAIROBI, KENYA: The solar powered laptops promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta to primary school pupils should go to Form One students because they need them the most.
Standard One pupil, who are said to be the beneficiaries of the gadgets, will not know how to handle this rather sensitive gadget.
A seven year old that is yet to learn the basics of communication is too young to handle an electronic gadget safely.
Chances that the laptops will be mishandled, fall down and break or even get rained on are high. Muggers too will be awaiting their harvest day.
Otherwise, Kenyan tax money should not be misused for what I would call a ‘white elephant’ project.
Let the laptops go to more worthy recipients. With good management, this can turn out to be a most practical and beneficial agenda.
