PointBlank is not in the habit of praising people, but we can’t help but give it up for Dr Evans Kidero. In the past few days, we have heard some unbelievable news coming from the Governor’s office; and it has little to do with demanding more roomy offices or better perks.
First, we heard that Kidero had declined to take a “tiny” bribe of Sh10 million and a Toyota Landcruiser gift from some very ‘philanthropic’ businessmen. And, before we could even digest that, news came the stingert that he had interdicted four senior officers from City Hall over loss of over Sh180 million. All these barely a month since taking office!
It seems Nairobians have, finally, gotten the right doctor, with the right super glue, to seal City Hole leaks. The Governor has taken off on the right footing. Only dunderheads don’t know that graft is the city’s number one enemy. If Kidero can manage — and we wish him the best in this herculian task — to slay the corruption dragon at City Hall, he will have put the city on the road to becoming one of the greatest urban centres in the world.
