Nyandarua leaders have come up with a Disaster Management Committee to seek solutions to destruction caused by the ongoing rains.

The committee, headed by Deputy Governor Waithaka Mwangi, will help evaluate damages caused by the rains and come up with possible measures to prevent future losses.

It will also liaise with the National Disaster Management Committee formed by the Government for future funding. “We are going round the county evaluating the damages caused so that we can recommend to the national disaster management committee for funding. We want the damages repaired once and for all,” said Waithaka.

He said that the committee would also forward lasting solutions and recommendations to the county cabinet. “We want to come up with future solutions to these problems. We cannot be having rains destroying our roads and crops every year,” he said.

He said that roads were the most affected since the rains had cut off most of them.

“Farmers cannot deliver their produce to the market due to the deplorable state of our roads. That is why we have come up with this committee,” said the deputy governor.
