Senators complained of poor working environment on the first day of business, saying their workplace must befit the status of Upper House.
The senators have been forced to conduct their business from one of the conference rooms at KICC awaiting the refurbishment of their Chambers at main Parliament Buildings.
When they congregated to commence business yesterday, some Senators complained that the environment was not befitting their status. Siaya Senator James Orengo even likened the Chambers and other facilities at their temporary abode to a garage, which required further modifications to measure up to the standards of a parliamentary Chamber.
demoralised lot
Members pleaded with the Speaker Ekwe Ethuro to move with speed and accord them facilities that “befit their status” even as they accused the leadership of Parliament of being slow in granting them the right atmosphere to conduct business. They complained that their working conditions are poor and that most of the staff seconded to the House were a demoralised lot.
They demanded that the reconstruction of their Chamber at Parliament Buildings be expedited so that House reverts to its rightful place within the precincts of Parliament.
