MWINGI, KENYA: A doctor at Mwingi District Hospital in Kitui County was on Wednesday found dead in his house.
The body of Dr John Makau Kioli, 28, which had already started to rot was removed from his house within Mwingi town by police.
Mwingi Deputy OCPD Leonard Baini said the doctor who worked as a pharmacist at the hospital is suspected to have died on Sunday night. Police were forced to break the window to gain access into the house only to find his body lying in bed while the TV set was still on. The medic who was single stayed alone.
The police chief said curious neighbours alerted the police after the medic failed to show up since Sunday morning adding that there was a foul smell emanating from his house
“The neighbours suspected something was wrong and reported to us. On approaching his house we were hit by a foul smell and this forced us to break into his house where we retrieved the body. There were no marks on his body but we have launched investigations,” Mr Baini said.
He added that the doctor's colleagues at the hospital became worried when he failed to report on duty on Monday while calls and text messages to his phone went unanswered.
The body was removed to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem to establish the cause of his death. The doctor’s parents who live in Nairobi yesterday visited the police station to gather more details about their son’s death.
