Eldoret, Kenya: A businessman in Eldoret town claim his life is in danger following threats over a land dispute.
Mr Suleiman Waithaka Mwangi claimed strange persons have been trailing him in and out of his residence in Langas Estate.
“I bought the land at Pioneer estate block 12/350, measuring 0.15 hectares in 1998 from the municipality through the Commissioner of Land,” said Mwangi.
“I paid all the required fees after signing the agreement forms including land rates, rent, and registration fees. But now the land has been registered in someone’s name,” he added.
Trouble began when he complained to the police his tittle deed was changed and handed over to someone else by the municipality.
“I have been paying land rates promptly to the council until 2007 when somebody (name withheld) presented a certificate of lease in my name, which allowed the council to amend the records to reflect the new owner,” Mwangi explained.
Mwangi explained the then Town Clerk Stanslaus Ondimu wrote to the District Lands Registrar Tom Chepkwesi confirming he (Mwangi) owned the land, which shows he was issued with an allotment letter in 1998 by the Commissioner of Lands.
The records show he is the owner of the land.
“I was surprised when I was informed of the change of ownership. I wrote to the council complaining but my plea landed on deaf ears forcing me to take the case to the CID Headquarters,” he said.
The Standard could not reach Karatu, as his phone number on the documents is no longer in service.
Mwangi, who has since sought the assistance of CID officers, claims strange people unknown to him have been trailing him within Eldoret town and now fears for his life.
“I have since reported the matter to the police,” he said.
DCIO Uasin Gishu County Isaac Musyoki confirmed the dispute has been reported to his office.
