KIRINYAGA, KENYA: TNA leadership in Kirinyaga County has faulted Prime Minister Raila Odinga for criticising the recent Supreme Court ruling.

Led by Governor Joseph Ndathi and Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari, the leaders wondered why National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) was not taking action against Raila for alleged incitement while on a tour of Kondele in Kisumu.

Raila criticised the Supreme Court for upholding the election of Uhuru Kenyatta and rejecting his evidence. Raila was touring Kisumu for the first time since he lost the petition.

Speaking during an interdenominational prayer meeting at Kerugoya Stadium at the weekend, Gitari claimed Raila’s statement was inflammatory. “When a Prime Minister shows disrespect for the highest court, what does that mean?” asked Gitari.

The legislator said the outgoing Prime Minister should be talking about reconciliation and cohesion, but not opening cans of worms.

Peaceful atmosphere

Ndathi said leaders, whether in political positions or whatever capacity, should always preach peace.

“Our country needs peaceful atmosphere more than ever before, more so when we have embarked on actualisation of devolution,” the Governor said. Ndathi further told residents not to expect any development until after the June Budget is read and passed.

“Although we are now in office legally, I am sorry the county coffers are empty and we do not expect any more until the 2013/14 Budget is presented to Parliament and approved,” he said.

The ceremony was presided over by Kirinyaga Anglican Diocesan Bishop Joseph Kibucwa. Kibucwa urged leaders to forge unity for development.

Other leaders present were Ndia MP Stephen Ngari, Woman Representative Winnie Karimi Njuguna, Senator Daniel Karaba, Deputy Governor Julius Njiiri and County Ward Representatives.
