Patrick Kagogo’s 75th minute goal condemned Sony to yet another defeat as Sofapaka run a comfortable 2-0 winner in a Kenyan Premier League encounter at Awendo Green Stadium, yesterday.
Kagogo tapped in a rebound after Sony’s keeper Collins Odiwuor failed to hold a shot as Sony’s stuttering form continued.
Sony came into the game fresh from last week’s loss to City Stars and were keen to put a stop to the current poor form that has seen them remain rooted deep into the bottom of the league table.
The hosts started the match brightly with Marwa Chamberi testing Duncan Ochieng’ in Sofapaka’s goal but were unable to find an opening goal the fans so much craved for.
However, it was Sofapaka who got the first goal in the 13th minute after Feli Mulimba headed in a corner ball past despite Odiwuor’s best effort to keep the ball out.
Sony replied by throwing some a number of long balls into the Sofapaka’s box but were unable to get a breakthrough with the Nairobi- based side holding firm to go into the break still ahead.
The second half was evenly balanced with Sony slightly dominating but their front two of Chamberi and Aziz Okaka were unable to really threaten Ochieng’ in Sofapaka’s goal.
They eventually got an opportunity through a penalty after Sofapaka’s James Situma handled into the box in the 69th minute but Okaka’s hurriedly taken spot kick was punched to safety by Ochieng’ for a fruitless corner.
And Sony were made to rue the miss as Sofapaka punished them almost immediately with Patrick Kagogo tapping in his team’s second in the 74th minute after his initial shot had been blocked back by Odiwuor.
And as the game wore on, Sony’s coach Sammy Omollo seemed dejected on the bench as the loss ensured that Sony remained bottom of the league table.
Soon after the match, hundreds of fans demanded that club calls fresh elections, blaming the current office of interfering with the technical bench and hence the cause of the poor performance.
