Hard-punching Nick Abaka of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), who was fighting in the middleweight category, booked a slot in the finals after beating Police’s David Njuguna on points on Friday during the second day of the National Boxing League being staged at the Kisumu’s Ofafa Hall.

Nick Okoth, also of KDF, sailed to the finals after overcoming Ishmael Osir of Administration Police, while Fredrick Onyango, also of KDF, who was fighting in the light heavyweight berth, swept past George Owiti of Prisons.

KDF’s Victor Odhiambo outclassed Paul Mwaura of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in the light welterweight berth, while Musa Gitonga beat Victor Wesonga of Administration Police.

In the light flyweight category, KDF’s Shafi Udi outpunched Abdala Athumani of Coast in the event that was dominated by military men, who never took part last year as they were in Somalia in the Operation Linda Nchi mission.

Police, on the other hand, had four boxers through to the finals.

Silver medalist

Commonwealth silver medalist, Benson Gicharu, led after crushing William Kamau of Prisons as Peter Mungai in the flyweight berth overcame Matayo Keya of KNH.

In the heavyweight category, Charles Okoth beat Fred Ramogi of KDF, while Nivien Okumu outpointed Edwin Okoth of KNH.

In the light flyweight, Maurice Ochieng’ outpointed Jackson Okwiri of Coast.

In the light heavyweight, Antony Oduor of Kisumu defeated James Abuogo of Prisons after the warder suffered a leg injury.

Gicharu had the same day led Police boxers in their title defence.

Gicharu, who was fighting in bantamweight category, beat Benson Busaka of Busia to win the encounter with 3-0 points in a game that was witnessed by thousands of boxing lovers.

Okoth of KDF who rejoined the national boxing league in the same group punched Raphael Ken of Nairobi Metro via 1-0 point.

William Kamau of Prisons overpowered Jack Oyoko of Kisumu in the lightwelter weight dissection while Paul Kamau of KHN beat Dennis Otieno of Administration Police.

Odhiambo of KDF overcame Raphael Ken of Metro while Silas Masek of police demolished Michael Odhiambo of Kisumu.

In the welterweight tie, Rayton Okwiri of Police thrashed Vincent Ouma of the Administration Police while Nivien Okumu of the Kenya Police arrested Moses Njoroge of KDF in a closely contested fight.

In the lightweight berth, Joseph Njogu of Prisons thwarted Joseph Shigali of Police, while Peter Mungai also of Police defeated Erick Ndugu of Prisons in the light flyweight berth.

Nick Abaka of KDF defeated David Khamali of Administration Police with 3-0 points lead in the middleweight category.

Finals took place yesterday and continue today morning. The event usually takes place at Social Hall but it was booked for another activity.
