National cricket team deputy coach Thomas Odoyo is certain his players will perform during the tour of Namibia.

The team is currently training at Ruaraka and Aga Khan Sports Club in readiness for a quadrangular tournament in Namibia.

The tournament will feature hosts Namibia, Netherlands, Emerging South Africa and Kenya.

The series that will include two official Twenty20 matches takes place in Windhoek on April 19-24.

“These fixtures are fantastic boost for Kenya cricket,” Odoyo said during training on Friday.

“All the teams are formidable sides and it is great way of measuring where we are as a team,” he added.

The tour comes weeks after the team beat Canada in the ICC Intercontinental Cup and World Cricket League Championships in Dubai last month.

The team resumed training last Monday under Coach Robin Brown and Odoyo.

After the tour, Kenya is expected to play Scotland and Afghanistan in Intercontinental Cup and World Cricket League Championships between July and October.

Meanwhile, Busia County has now a new sport in its line-up, as cricket has come to the province.

The sport is expanding in the area, and a new group of youth cricket players has begun taking up the sport and can be seen playing on open fields available.

“This is the first time that cricket has been attempted in this area,” said Dun Okinyo, Cricket Kenya Development Officer who is working to promote the sport in the sport here.

The game was first introduced to primary schools which are expected to take part in a tournament next week at Nandereka.

“There are more children under the age of 15 in this area and we are sure that if only four percent of them join cricket we shall have the highest number of players in the next three to five years,” he said.

We have eight schools currently playing cricket in the area. Recently Cricket Kenya distributed sets of cricket kits to schools in the area.
